The call was made during the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Atlantis Civic Centre, Osogbo, Osun State. The event brought together Muslim graduates of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) from across Nigeria and beyond to deliberate on the future of the association and discuss initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of members and enhancing the association's impact on society.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of LAUMGA Osogbo Branch and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2026 AGM, Mr. Owolawi Abduljeleel, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the successful hosting of the event. He appreciated members who travelled from different parts of the country and abroad to attend the gathering.
Mr. Abduljeleel emphasized the importance of unity among members, noting that the assembly of Muslim intellectuals demonstrated the enormous potential of Muslims to achieve remarkable goals when they work together.
"The gathering of intellectual Muslim professionals today is a clear indication that Muslims can move mountains and accomplish great feats when united by a common purpose," he said.
He commended the National President of LAUMGA, Engr. Muideen Aruna, and the national executive council for selecting Osogbo as the host city for the AGM. He also acknowledged the support of the National President of the LAUTECH Alumni Association, Engr. Dr. Abdulrahman Olalekan Badmus, FNSE, for his financial support of One million naira and give the association an Alumni Bus to use throughout the program and commitment to the success of the event.
The Osogbo Branch Chairman further praised members of the Local Organising Committee for their dedication and sacrifices in ensuring a memorable and successful AGM. He stated that the branch remains fully prepared to host a future national convention whenever the opportunity arises.
He urged members to continue promoting the teachings of Islam while fostering unity, cooperation, and mutual support within the association.
Speaking at the event, the National President of LAUMGA, Engr. Muideen Aruna, expressed appreciation to the Osogbo Branch leadership and the Local Organising Committee for their exceptional hospitality and organization.
He also thanked branch chairmen and members from across the federation for their participation and unwavering commitment to the association.
Engr. Aruna highlighted the achievements recorded during his administration and presented reports on various programmes and initiatives undertaken by the association. He reiterated the importance of unity and collective progress, stressing that sustainable development within the association can only be achieved through collaboration and active participation by members.
Also addressing participants, the National President of the LAUTECH Alumni Association and Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Engr. Dr. Abdulrahman Olalekan Badmus, FNSE, applauded LAUMGA for its contributions to society and encouraged members to continue making positive impacts in their communities.
He noted that as Muslim graduates and professionals, members have a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to societal development through charitable activities, mentorship, and community service. He pledged his continued support for the association and urged members to remain committed to peaceful coexistence, unity, and mutual respect.
A major highlight of the AGM was an insightful lecture delivered by Dr. Seriki Arazeem, FWACP, FM, MMCFM, Consultant Family Physician and Head of the Geriatric Clinic at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
The lecture, themed "Sunnah and Science: Preventive Care, Purity and Aging with Dignity in Islam," focused on the importance of preventive healthcare and healthy living from both Islamic and scientific perspectives.
Dr. Arazeem encouraged participants to take their health seriously through regular medical check-ups, healthy lifestyles, and adequate rest. He emphasized the need for work-life balance and discussed several health-related issues affecting contemporary society. The medical expert also examined Islamic perspectives on family planning and highlighted the significance of cleanliness, personal well-being, and dignified aging in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
The AGM activities commenced earlier in the week with a two-day medical outreach and free surgical intervention programme jointly organized by LAUMGA Osogbo Branch and NASFAT Osogbo Branch. The outreach provided medical care and free surgical procedures for 62 patients, demonstrating the association's commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
The week-long programme also featured a special Jumu'ah service on Friday, during which members engaged in acts of charity, including visits to the FOMWAN Orphanage Home in Osogbo. Donations of gifts, food items, and cash were presented to support the welfare of children at the orphanage.
The grand finale, held on Saturday, brought together distinguished professionals, academics, religious leaders, alumni executives, and members of the Muslim community in an atmosphere of brotherhood, reflection, and renewed commitment to service.
The 2026 AGM concluded with participants reaffirming their dedication to the ideals of unity, professional excellence, Islamic values, and community development, while expressing optimism about the future growth and relevance of LAUMGA both nationally and internationally.
