The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru, has disclosed that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, will campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the state.
Basiru also said the emerging cooperation between the APC and the Accord Party in Osun would help secure about 1.5 million votes for President Tinubu in the next presidential election.
He made the disclosure on Sunday while speaking with journalists after paying a courtesy visit to Governor Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo.
According to Basiru, Adeleke not only endorsed Tinubu for a second term but also expressed his readiness to campaign vigorously for the President.
“I am also here to thank him for endorsing my leader and our presidential candidate and to also assure him that we are ready to work together to ensure that we deliver Osun massively for President Bola Tinubu,” Basiru said.
He added: “The governor, during our closed-door meeting, has also said that not only is he endorsing the president, but he will also be on the field to campaign vigorously for President Bola Tinubu for the January 16 presidential election.”
Basiru urged political actors in the state not to allow the recent governorship election to deepen divisions, stressing the need for peace and cooperation for the development of Osun.
On reports of post-election violence, he said the situation had subsided but called on stakeholders, particularly members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), to resolve their leadership differences peacefully.
“Election has come and gone; all of us belong to this place. We must work to ensure that we have meaningful infrastructure and a good living for the people of Osun,” he said.
He also urged APC members to close ranks ahead of the presidential election and work together to secure victory for Tinubu.
Basiru, who described the APC’s loss of the governorship election to the Accord Party as not a poor performance, expressed optimism that stronger mobilisation and cooperation between both parties could deliver about 1.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Osun.
