Having lived in Spain for 24 years, I was genuinely amazed by what I experienced at the Nigerian Embassy in Madrid on 17th August 2026.
For many years, Nigerians in Spain have expressed serious concerns about the difficulties and unpleasant experiences encountered at the Embassy.
Going there for consular services was often dreaded.
Many people arrived as early as [6:00] a.m. and remained until [5:00] p.m., sometimes without completing their applications or receiving the services they came for.
Sadly, there were frequent complaints about delays, disorder, and poor treatment of applicants.
Recently, however, people have been speaking about significant improvements at the Embassy.
I had heard these reports, but I wanted to see the changes for myself.
On the day of my appointment, everyone was seated in an orderly manner when an Embassy official came in, greeted us warmly, and addressed everyone present.
He encouraged us to cooperate and follow due process so that the day’s activities could proceed smoothly.
At first, I thought it was merely a routine address, but I was pleasantly surprised by what followed.
The official and his dedicated team attended to applicants professionally, respectfully, and efficiently.
By [2:00] p.m., everyone had been attended to and left satisfied.
There were no complaints, no confusion, and no unnecessary delays. The atmosphere was calm, organised, and refreshing.
I later asked who was leading the team and was informed that he is Mr. Ayotunde Adigun, the Head of Immigration Services at the Nigerian Embassy in Spain. Since my visit, I have spoken with several people about the positive changes at the Embassy, and I have not heard any negative reports.
This is truly commendable.
I sincerely appreciate all the staff of the Nigerian Embassy in Spain, especially Mr. Ayotunde Adigun and his immigration team, for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving Nigerians with dignity. I also extend my gratitude to the Ambassador for the visible improvements in the operations of the Embassy.
My sincere hope is that other Nigerian Embassies around the world will adopt this standard of organisation, efficiency, and respectful service.
