Multiple Nigerian news outlets are now reporting the death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
His daughter, Kaira Taiwo, reportedly confirmed the death during an Instagram Live session. The confirmation follows days of concern over his health after his daughters publicly appealed for urgent medical assistance. Reports say Ogogo had been battling stage-four cancer, and doctors had reportedly indicated that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his deteriorating condition.
The reports also note that Ogogo was 66 years old and had spent decades as one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood.
There is an important distinction from the earlier reports: a death rumour circulated on August 18, but his daughter Lima Taiwo then described it as false. Today's reports are different, with Kaira's reported confirmation and multiple independent Nigerian news organisations now reporting his death.
