If You Mistakenly Transfer Money To A Wrong Account, Do Not Panic, Simply Do This

Making a bank transfer to the wrong account can be frightening, especially when the amount is large. But don’t panic. Acting quickly can increase your chances of getting the money back.

1. Contact Your Bank ImmediatelyCall your bank’s customer service or visit the nearest branch and report the wrong transfer. Provide the transaction details, including the amount, date, time, transaction reference and the recipient’s account details.

2. Ask the Bank to Initiate a RecallYour bank can contact the receiving bank and request that the money be returned. The sooner you report the transaction, the better.
3. Keep All Evidence

Save your transfer receipt, screenshots, SMS alerts and transaction reference number. These may be needed during the recovery process.
4. Do Not Try to Threaten the Recipient
If you know the person who received the money, politely contact them and request a refund. Avoid threats or harassment, as this could create additional problems.
5. Be Patient With the Recovery Process
If the recipient agrees, the money may be returned. If they refuse, your bank can guide you on the next steps available under the applicable banking procedures.
Important: Never share your PIN, password, OTP or full banking details with anyone claiming they can help you recover the money.
