An unidentified woman has been found dead inside a church premises in the Obelawo area of Osogbo, Osun State, with her left wrist reportedly severed.
The incident was disclosed by the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the police, detectives visited the scene following the discovery of the woman’s body. Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased had allegedly been slaughtered before her left wrist was cut off and taken away by unknown persons.
“The investigations revealed that the deceased was slaughtered and her left wrist severed and taken away by unknown persons,” Iniedu said.
The police said the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the motive, remained unknown. Efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased and establish what led to her death.
The State Command Investigation Department has commenced an investigation into the incident, while detectives continue efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The corpse was deposited at a hospital mortuary for autopsy and further examination.
