The Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) has congratulated His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Oyelude Hameed Makama, Tegbosun III, the Olowu of Kuta, CON, on the occasion of his 14th anniversary on the throne, describing his reign as a compelling model of how traditional institutions can remain relevant in shaping a progressive society.
In a congratulatory message, OOPA said the Olowu’s 14 years on the throne represent more than a ceremonial milestone, noting that his leadership has reinforced the significance of the traditional institution as a bridge between cultural heritage, community development and the demands of modern society.
The association described Oba Makama’s reign as a transformational epoch that has placed Kuta prominently on the map of history, while projecting the ancient institution of the palace as a platform capable of inspiring development, unity and responsible citizenship.
OOPA particularly commended the monarch for his commitment to preserving the dignity of established customs and traditions while embracing the realities of contemporary society.
According to the association, the Olowu’s ability to connect the wisdom of the past with the aspirations of the present demonstrates the evolving role of traditional rulers in nation-building.
“Traditional institutions remain important cords that must be strengthened for peace, stability and communal prosperity. When properly positioned, the palace can become a sanctuary for culture, a catalyst for development and a unifying force capable of nurturing responsible generations,” OOPA stated.
The association further noted that the enduring relevance of traditional leadership lies not merely in the preservation of titles and customs, but in the ability of monarchs to deploy their influence for peace, development and the advancement of their people.
OOPA said the Olowu of Kuta’s 14-year reign offers an example of how the palace can participate meaningfully in the process of societal renewal, adding that Nigeria’s reset must not be conceived solely within the corridors of political power, but also from institutions deeply rooted in the history and conscience of the people.
“On behalf of the leadership and entire membership of OOPA, we celebrate with the good people of Kuta and congratulate His Royal Majesty for 14 years of vibrant leadership, cultural preservation and service to his people.
“We pray for continued wisdom, good health and many more years of impactful reign as Your Majesty continues to provide exemplary leadership on the ancestral throne of Kuta.”
