As Nigeria celebrates her 66th Independence Anniversary, the Director-General of Renewed Hope for the Elderly, Dr. Bode Olaonipekun, has felicitated with Nigerians across the 36 states of the federation and the 774 local government areas, describing the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s journey, celebrate its resilience and renew collective commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and united Nigeria.
Dr. Olaonipekun commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening governance and repositioning the country for sustainable development.
He particularly noted the administration’s efforts toward strengthening local government autonomy following the Supreme Court judgment affirming the constitutional rights of local governments, describing effective grassroots governance as essential to ensuring that democracy delivers meaningful benefits to citizens.
The DG RHE, also highlighted the establishment of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as an important intervention in expanding access to tertiary education. He noted that the scheme provides eligible Nigerian students with access to interest-free loans for institutional charges and upkeep, thereby addressing financial barriers that have prevented some young Nigerians from pursuing higher education.
He emphasized that the Independence anniversary should also remind Nigerians that nation-building is a continuous responsibility requiring unity, patriotism, accountability and constructive participation from citizens at every level.
He expressed optimism that sustained implementation of policies in education, infrastructure, economic development, investment and grassroots governance can contribute to Nigeria’s aspiration for a stronger economy and a more respected place in the comity of nations.
While congratulating Nigerians on the milestone, Dr. Olaonipekun urged citizens to continue to support peace, democratic institutions and policies that promote inclusive development.
He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to overcome its challenges and emerge stronger, while wishing Nigerians at home and abroad a Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, with the prayer that the nation will continue to prosper and that the hopes and aspirations of its citizens will be fulfilled.
