The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso Branch, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the university management and the Oyo State Government over the non-implementation of the 2026 renegotiated agreement with the Federal Government, threatening a three-day warning strike if its demands are not met.
The union said the ultimatum, which commenced on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, would expire at midnight on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after which its members would embark on a warning strike from Wednesday, October 21, to Friday, October 23, 2026.
In a notice addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH and signed by the branch Chairperson, Comrade Fajoye H. O., and Secretary, Comrade Owolawi O. J., the union said the decision followed resolutions reached at its branch congress held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
SSANU expressed displeasure over what it described as the continued failure to implement the 2026 Federal Government of Nigeria/SSANU Renegotiation Agreement, which was signed by both parties on June 29, 2026.
The union demanded the immediate and full implementation of the agreement, particularly the 35 per cent salary adjustment described in its notice as CONTTA, earned allowances and other applicable non-financial provisions.
It also called for the payment of all outstanding arrears arising from the agreement, earned allowances and other entitlements due to its members, effective January 1, 2026.
According to the union, other states in the South-West have fully implemented the agreement and made the necessary financial provisions available to their universities, making the delay at LAUTECH a source of serious concern among its members.
The branch congress, after what it described as extensive deliberations, unanimously resolved to issue the ultimatum to the university management and, by extension, the Oyo State Government to address its demands within the stipulated period.
SSANU warned that failure to meet the demands before the expiration of the ultimatum would trigger the proposed three-day warning strike.
It further cautioned that if the issues remained unresolved after the warning strike, the union could proceed with an indefinite, total and comprehensive industrial action.
The union lamented that the patience of its members had been severely tested despite their commitment to the growth and development of the university.
It said it had exercised considerable restraint in the interest of industrial peace and the stability of the university's academic calendar but maintained that further delays were no longer acceptable in view of prevailing economic realities.
SSANU, therefore, urged the university management to treat the matter with urgency and take immediate steps to prevent an industrial crisis that could disrupt activities at the institution.
Copies of the notice were sent to the Registrar, the Bursar, the National President and National Vice-President of SSANU, the Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of SSANU, NAAT and NASU at LAUTECH, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services in the state.
