The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made guns and three rounds of live ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Asaba.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, in collaboration with local vigilantes.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect was allegedly a member of an armed robbery syndicate linked to several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.
Edafe disclosed that the arrest followed credible intelligence received by the operatives, leading to the suspect's apprehension.
He said the suspect's statements during interrogation led the police to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where the operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition.
The police spokesman added that investigations were ongoing to uncover further details about the alleged criminal network and identify other suspects who might be involved.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the successful operation.
Erale reiterated the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and the dismantling of criminal networks across the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing the police with credible information that could assist in preventing crime and apprehending criminal suspects.
The police assured residents of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property across Delta State.
