The Director-General and National Coordinator of Renewed Hope for the Elderly, Dr. Bode Olaonipekun, has felicitated with teachers across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Teachers’ Day celebration, commending them for their invaluable contributions to the development of the nation.
In a statement issued to mark the celebration in Abuja, Dr. Olaonipekun described teachers as critical stakeholders in nation-building, noting that their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to educating younger generations continue to shape the future of Nigeria.
He congratulated teachers for their resilience and service to the country, while urging governments and relevant stakeholders to continue to give priority attention to their welfare, professional development and working conditions.
The Renewed Hope for the Elderly DG also called on teachers and other workers to consider supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, saying, according to him, the administration has demonstrated commitment to issues concerning workers, pensioners and retirees.
Dr. Olaonipekun said the welfare of teachers should remain an important component of national development, stressing that teachers deserve recognition not only during Teachers’ Day celebrations but throughout the year.
He also commended what he described as the administration’s efforts toward addressing the payment of pensions and gratuities owed to retired teachers and other civil servants.
According to him, the attention given to retirees and workers is particularly significant because many elderly citizens depend on their pensions and retirement benefits for their livelihood and wellbeing.
“Teachers have played and continue to play a central role in building our nation. They deserve to be appreciated, respected and supported because the future of Nigeria depends greatly on the quality of education we provide to our children,” Dr. Olaonipekun said.
He further appealed to teachers and other members of the workforce to remain committed to their responsibilities while engaging constructively with government on policies and programmes affecting their welfare.
The Renewed Hope for the Elderly National Coordinator said the organisation would continue to advocate for policies that promote the welfare, dignity and wellbeing of senior citizens, retired workers and other vulnerable members of society.
He wished Nigerian teachers a memorable Teachers’ Day celebration and encouraged them to remain dedicated to the noble profession of teaching.
