Osun: Lajomo Ruling House, Writes Gov. Adeleke, Demand For Reversal of the Elevation of Baale of Irepodun Community Osogbo as King.

One of the foremost and established ruling houses in the Ataoja Chieftaincy, Lajomo Ruling House Osogbo has petitioned the governor of Osun State, Sen. Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke against the elevation of Baale of Irepodun Community Oke-Osun Osogbo to Part II Traditional council in the state, which contravene the native law and custom for anyone to be made an Oba on any of Osogbo land without the consent of the princes of the five ruling houses first sought and obtained.

This was contained in a petition sent to the Osun State Governor Sen. Ademola Adeleke by the Lajomo Ruling House and made available to the newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday.

According to the petition, "We want to use this medium to firstly congratulate your excellency on your well-deserved conferment of the chieftaincy title as the Asiwaju of Ede land on your Excellency, we pray that the Almighty God will continue to put you first and forward and may Grant you wisdom to lead the people right. "The Lajomo Ruling House is one of the foremost and established ruling houses in the Ataoja chieftaincy. It is with utmost respect albeit dismay that our family is writing this letter to you particularly concerning the recent elevation of Baale of Irepodun community in Osogbo to a recognized status within Osun State.

"We must state first and foremost that it is against the native law and custom of Osogbo land for anyone who is not from any of the five known and established ruling houses in Osogbo, Osun state to ascend any stool or become an Oba on any Osogbo land except the Ataoja.

Part from the above, we state also that it is a travesty of history, native law and custom for anyone to be made an Oba on any part of Osogbo land without the consent of the princes of the five ruling houses first sought and obtained.

Not only has the above been flouted but also the said Olu of Irepodun has now been parading himself around as an Oba on Osogbo land to the spite of all members of the ruling houses in Osogbo.

It had never been heard in the history of Osogbo that another King is crowned apart from the Ataoja of Osogbo and suffice it to say that the said "crowned Oba" has no history and no link whatsoever with any of the five ruling houses in Osogbo.

Your excellency, the entire Lajomo Ruling house believes that this affront on native law and custom is not expected to stand and also the illegal parade by the said "Oba"  must stop to avert a potential breach of law, order, peace, and tranquility in our state. 

"Further to the above your excellency, our attention had been drawn to the appellation being used by the said Oba as "Olu of Irepodun Oke-Osun" in Osogbo, we state that this is contrary to native law and custom and traditional history of Osogbo. We must state emphatically that the Oke-Osun land is under the territorial jurisdiction of the Baale of Oke-Osun whose office is peculiar to the Lajomo ruling house and therefore cannot be ceded to anyone who is not a member of the Lajomo ruling house. As a matter of fact, and for emphasis, the said Irepodun community upon which the said elevation was made did not at any time extend into the Oke-Osun Community and therefore cannot be made part of his alleged territory now.

"In the light of the foregoing, it is therefore our demand that:

1.  The purported elevation of Baale of Irepodun Community in Osogbo be reviewed and reversed with immediate effect as same is in conflict and travesty of the native law and custom of Osogbo land. 

2. An immediate stop of the illegal appellation of *"OLU OF IREPODUN OKE-OSUN COMMUNITY"*within Osogbo as same is in travesty and an embarrassment to all the princes with the Osogbo traditional chieftaincy.

3.  The removal of the Oke-Osun Community from the appellation of Baale of Irepodun with immediate effect. 

4. we respectfully demand that Your Excellency request as part of the documents to be submitted before approval of elevation of Baales in and on Osogbo land, written consent of the Ruling Houses in the Ataoja of Osogbo Chieftaincy to forestall breakdown and travesty of history and tradition.

"We believe strongly in the leadership of you Excellency and also trust that all these issues will be strongly looked into and our peculiar interest protected. We thank you". the petition read.
