The Baba Oosa Of Osogbo land and its environs, Prince Osunyemi Ifarinu Ifabode has urged the general public to disregard the news spreading on social media alleging the organizers of Osun Osogbo Festival 2024 of banning people from drinking the water during the grand finale of Osun Osogbo International festival celebration that will be held on Friday August 9th, 2024.
Prince Ifarinu who spoke on behalf of the Ataoja of Osogbo land,His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Abidemi Oyetunji Olanipekun (Larooye II) regarding the news spreading on social media, described the news as fake and far from the truth.
He urged the people to disregard the publication alleging that the people coming to celebrate the 2024 Osun Osogbo Festival have been banned from drinking water from the Osun River during the grand finale of the Osun Osogbo International festival celebration.
Ifarinu asserted that Osun Osogbo is a recognized International Festival where people come from far and near to make request,and as well celebrate the goddess of the Osun River that is known as comforter and joy giver,where the barren, and those who have been suffering from one sickness or the other drink the spiritual water,known as "herb", and get solution to their various degree of problems due to the wonders that happen through it.The news spreading on social media platforms regarding banning people from drinking the water is fake and far from the truth. He urged the general public and the people coming to celebrate the Osun Osogbo International festival to disregard the news spreading on social media handles and published by some bloggers.
He therefore appealed to people not to panic or exercise any fear in celebrating this year Osun Osogbo International festival and drink water at the shrine (as usual) on August 9th, 2024.
In his words, "The attention of Ataoja in council has been drawn to a publication currently on social media where libelous allegations were made against the organizers of Osun Osogbo International Festival 2024 which has compelled us to respond to correct the misrepresentation and misinformation contained therein.
In the publication,it was alleged that the people coming to celebrate the 2024 Osun Osogbo Festival have been banned from drinking water from the Osun River during the grand finale celebration on August 9th, 2024.
We wish to inform the general public that Osun Osogbo Festival is a recognized International Festival where people come from far and near to make request and celebrate the goddess of Osun River.The door is widely open for all peace loving people far and near,as the custodian of Osun Osogbo International cultural festival,our revered Kabiesi, the Ataoja of Osogbo Kingdom is ready to receive them warmly with open hands ".He concluded.
Given the foregoing, We would like to inform the general public that the publication was part of an orchestrated campaign of calumny aimed at damaging the reputation of the Osun Osogbo Festival and bringing it into public odium, obloquy, infamy, scandal, scorn, and contempt.
The publication is to dent the image of His Imperial Majesty Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun (Larooye II), Osogbo, Osun Worshippers, and the organizers of the 2024 Osun Osogbo International Festival. Osun Osogbo is a UNESCO-recognized festival.
We however urge the promoters of the said publication to henceforth stop publishing news that is capable of damaging the reputation of the virtuous and peace loving Osogbo people, and also blemish the glorious and untainted image of the Osun Osogbo International Festival.
