The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ede South Local Government Elders Council held a celebratory event on Sunday to honor two prominent indigenes of Ede South, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso and Prof. Isa Bello, who were recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Pro-Chancellor and Board Chairman of two Federal Tertiary Institutions, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife and Federal University, Taraba State, respectively.
The gathering, which took place at the residence of Hon. Johnson Ojo in Ede, saw the presence of several influential party leaders, including ward and unit chairmen, former councilors, and past local government chairmen. The event was organized to celebrate the achievements of the two appointees and to foster discussions on the progress of the APC within the local government area.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Johnson Ojo, Chairman of the APC Elders Council in Ede South, commended President Tinubu for appointing these esteemed sons of the local government to key positions in the education sector. He also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola, for his continued support and efforts that led to these appointments. Hon. Ojo emphasized the need for continuous collaboration with the appointees to drive meaningful development in both the local government and the party.
In his address, Hon. Ojo urged the appointees to utilize their positions to benefit the people of Ede and advance the party’s interests. He assured the gathering that the APC is fully committed to winning the 2026 governorship election, stressing the importance of unity and hard work among party members at the grassroots level.
Hon. Kazeem Oluogun, Chairman of the APC in Ede South, also extended his appreciation to the party leaders and members present at the event. He lauded Prof. Oyeweso and Prof. Bello for their significant contributions to the development of Ede South and the party. Hon. Oluogun urged the party faithful to support the efforts of these prominent Ede South indigenes and prioritize the party’s success in all their endeavors.
Leading party member, Hon. Muriana Adeboyejo, called on everyone present to work together to enhance the APC’s presence and influence in the local government.
In their remarks, both Prof. Siyan Oyeweso and Prof. Isa Bello expressed their gratitude for the honor and support they have received from the APC leadership. Prof. Oyeweso acknowledged the contributions of key party figures, including Alhaji Oyetola, Bola Oyebamiji of NIWA, and other APC leaders. He encouraged party members to foster unity and focus on the party’s collective success. He also emphasized that the time in office is fleeting, and the benefits delivered to the community and the party will be remembered long after.
Prof. Oyeweso urged members of the APC to refrain from internal conflicts and backbiting, stressing the need for collective action in strengthening the party. He assured the party that Prof. Isa Bello would be a reliable ally in advancing the party’s goals and pledged that the APC would secure a victory in the 2026 governorship election.
Prof. Isa Bello, for his part, expressed his happiness in being part of the Ede South APC family and promised to contribute to the continued success and growth of the party both in the local government and the state.
In addition to the celebratory discussions, the Elders Council also took the opportunity to inaugurate new members into the APC Ede South Elders Council, further strengthening the party’s foundation in the local government.
