The governance of Osun State under Governor Ademola Adeleke has left much to be desired, especially when critically examining the elements of nepotism and the glaring neglect of pressing issues that directly impact the lives of Osun’s citizens. While the PDP administration has been quick to trumpet superficial achievements, a deeper look reveals a government plagued by poor prioritization and policies that benefit a select few rather than the masses.
Under Governor Adeleke's watch, Osun State has witnessed a disturbing trend of nepotistic appointments, sidelining competent professionals in favor of individuals selected for their familial or political ties. This not only undermines the principles of meritocracy but also deprives the state of much-needed expertise to address its challenges. Nepotism is a disservice to the hardworking people of Osun who deserve leaders and administrators chosen on the basis of competence, not connections.
Furthermore, the Adeleke-led government has failed to focus on critical sectors that form the backbone of the state’s development. For instance:
Healthcare: The PDP administration has yet to deliver meaningful reforms to address the pressing needs in public healthcare facilities, leaving citizens to grapple with inadequate services.
Infrastructure: Despite claims of road rehabilitation, many communities remain disconnected and underserved, inhibiting economic growth.
Education: The lack of significant investment in the state’s education sector has widened the gap in access to quality learning for children across Osun.
It is essential to contrast this with the robust governance model established by the APC and former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. His administration prioritized inclusive policies, evident in the significant strides made in healthcare, infrastructure development, and welfare programs. Oyetola’s government worked tirelessly to leave no sector untouched, focusing on initiatives that improved the quality of life for the average Osun citizen.
The APC has consistently championed policies that resonate with the aspirations of the masses. From the revitalization of the education sector to the successful implementation of comprehensive healthcare reforms, the APC’s legacy in Osun State is a testament to people-centric leadership.
We urge Governor Adeleke and the PDP to abandon their self-serving tendencies and concentrate on the real issues that affect the people of Osun. Governance is not a stage for grandstanding but a platform for addressing unemployment, improving healthcare, and ensuring the equitable distribution of resources.
