The Yoruba Leaders of Thought , a.k.a Afenifere, a Yoruba Socio-Political group, has extolled the virtues of Chief Bisi Akande on his 86th birthday, describing him as a strong pillar and one of prominent "founding fathers" of the All Progressive party APC and an outstanding leader of the Yoruba race.
In a statement released in Osogbo, through publicity secretary Hon Adebayo Temitope and signed by the leaders, His Excellency, Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin and Prince (Atc) Lekan Usman , the group highlighted Chief Akande's remarkable contributions to Nigerian politics, recalling his role as Secretary to the Government in Old Oyo State and later as Deputy Governor under Chief Bola Ige
Yoruba Leaders of Thought also commended Akande for remaining true to the progressive ideology of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, even after Awolowo's departure. As the first chairman of the APC, Akande led the party to victory, securing control of the central government, which is the age long desire of the late sage.
During his tenure as Governor of Osun State, Akande prioritized local content, using home-based professionals, technicians, artisans, skilled and unskilled labour workforces to construct the sprawling edifices of the State Secretariat and the Governor's office and several state roads and infrastructures, promoting local businesses. His leadership earned him the nickname "Baba omo kekeke ",y father of the young ones. His legacies bequeathed to Osun State will continue to be celebrated.
As Afenifere wishes Chief Bisi Akande many more years to celebrate, it's clear that his impact on Nigerian politics and the Yoruba race will be remembered for generations to come.
