In a significant move to enhance the living standards of the Gbagi Larooye Market community, the Osogbo South Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the capable leadership of the Head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Mrs. Adebisi Elizabeth Oluwatoyin, unveiled three key infrastructural projects: a Borehole, Solar Street Lights and Ultra Modern In and Out Step at the Gbagi Larooye Market, Osogbo, on Tuesday. The event was graced by Hon. Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe (RTD), the Asiwaju of Osogboland, who represented the Ataoja of Osogboland, HRM Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II.
The unveiling of these essential projects marks a significant milestone in the development of the region and reflects the LCDA's commitment to improving the welfare of market dwellers in Osogbo and beyond.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Adebisi Elizabeth Oluwatoyin expressed immense satisfaction in officially commissioning the Borehole, Solar Energy Power Supply and Ultra Modern in and out step, highlighting the profound impact these projects will have on the Larooye Owode Market community. She emphasized that both projects were conceived with the goal of improving the livelihoods of market men and women, ensuring their access to clean drinking water and reliable electricity – two fundamental social amenities that are often scarce in rural areas.
She underscored the significance of these projects within the context of Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke’s Five-Point Agenda, which is geared towards bringing comfort and progress to the people of Osun State.
“Today, we celebrate not just the provision of basic amenities, but also a step forward towards improving the health, progress, and comfort of our people,” Mrs. Adebisi stated. “In a time when digital payments and e-banking are on the rise, reliable access to water and solar-powered electricity has become indispensable for any modern market.”
She further encouraged the market men and women to ensure timely payment of their market rates and fees to facilitate the maintenance of these facilities and ensure their sustainability.
“While the government is committed to providing support, it is also crucial that we take responsibility for the care and upkeep of these facilities. Let us also remember that self-help development efforts can complement what the government has provided,” she noted.
