SRJ Philosophy, Philanthropy, Call to Selfless Service, and The Alubarika Movement by Folarin Fafowora

In one of his recent interviews, one thing struck me, really hard; the place of God, helpers of destiny, act of philanthropy, and service to humanity. These are crucial factors to the survival and existence of any mortal being.

Indeed, Dr. Basiru’s journey to success is a testament to the impact of divine providence and human kindness. As explained by him, he firmly believes that his achievements in life at the moment are not solely as a result of his intelligence or hard work but are also deeply rooted in the generosity of individuals who supported him at crucial moments in his life.

As a devout Muslim, he recognizes the concept of stewardship before Almighty Allah and sees acts of kindness as a duty rather than a mere philanthropic choice. For him, helping others is not about seeking public validation or political gains but about fulfilling a moral and spiritual obligation that will one day be accounted for in the presence of God. His perspective on philanthropy is shaped by a strong belief that kindness should be rendered selflessly, without expectation of gratitude or recognition.

From what i read in the column, SRJ early life was marked by significant struggles that threatened to derail his dreams. During his university years, he faced expulsion and financial hardships, making it impossible for him to rely on his family alone for financial support. However, in those difficult times, he found hope and assistance in the kindness of strangers. Good and God - spirited individuals, some of whom were not even from his home state, took it upon themselves to ensure he completed his education. Their generosity did not stop at paying his tuition, they also provided for his living expenses, even offering him a monthly allowance during his law school days that was far greater than what many students from affluent backgrounds received.

Such extraordinary support reinforced his belief that one’s destiny is often shaped by the goodwill of others.

He is quick to point out at any opportunity that intelligence and brilliance alone do not guarantee success; sometimes, one needs a ‘giant’ upon whose shoulders one can stand to reach greater heights. His humility in recognizing the role others have played in his life fuels his unwavering commitment to giving back to society. He believes that just as God placed people in his path to help him succeed, he too must extend the same helping hand to others in need.

Despite his involvement in politics, the former Osun Central Senator remains steadfast in differentiating between humanitarian efforts and political patronage. He insists that while some acts of kindness are performed for public recognition, true humanitarian gestures should come from a place of genuine empathy and a desire to seek the blessings of God. His philanthropic activities are driven by a sincere resolve to support individuals who, like him, face financial or social hardships. He does not see his efforts as political investments but rather as a divine calling to serve humanity. In this regard, his approach to philanthropy is rooted in an understanding that the true measure of success lies not in personal achievements but in the ability to uplift others.

Given his very humble background and life experiences, the former Attorney General governance philosophy will surely reflect his personal journey of resilience, gratitude, and compassion to God and humanity. By the Grace of Almighty Allah, when elected into office as Governor in 2026, SRJ will inculcate and insulate these values into his administration by prioritizing social welfare programmes that will cater to the underprivileged in our society. His firsthand experience of financial hardship has instilled in him a deep appreciation for policies that promote accessible education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. These will surely be his mantra, a pro - poor and less privileged driven government.

He understands the significance of providing opportunities for the less fortunate and grossly disadvantaged, just as he was given opportunities in his youth. His leadership as the state helmsman will be characterized by a commitment to promote equity, inclusivity, and a genuine desire to uplift those in need, ensuring that governance is not just about political gains but about creating a lasting impact on the lives of the people. SRJ has a big heart for development, and he can not do it alone. Osun, both young and old, needs to rally round this accomplished gentleman to take Osun state and her people to where the state ought to be in all facets of human endeavour. It is time, no more delay. SRJ L'okan.
