Prof. Siji Olamiju Akol, a prominent leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has urged reinstated council chairmen and councillors to deliver democratic dividends to the grassroots. It will be recalled that after a lengthy legal battle, the Appeal Court confirmed the illegality of their removal, paving the way for their reinstatement
In a statement released and made available to the press through the New Spring Team. Akol emphasized the importance of bringing democracy closer to the people, particularly in rural areas. He encouraged the Chairmen and Councillors to implement projects that align with the President's renewed hope's vision of autonomy, ensuring that local governments become more self-sufficient.
To achieve this, Akol suggested that party Leaders establish a Think-Tank Committee, made up of a mixture of productive but seasoned Professionals and Development- oriented Politicians to come about Unified Local Government projects , programmes and deliveries. This will ensure that the people of Osun State benefit from democratic dividends.
Furthermore, Olamiju, cautioned the Chairmen against misusing council funds for personal enrichment, instead urging them to prioritize the needs of their constituents. He also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for directing local council funds to the right accounts.
In conclusion, Akol urged the reinstated Chairmen to take immediate action by approaching the Central Bank of Nigeria, as directed by the federal government and complete necessary documentation to facilitate the delivery of democratic dividends to the grassroots,he said.
