Olowu of Kuta Hosts Alaafin Owoade, Calls for Unity Among Yoruba Monarchs

Olowu-Kuta: "Yoruba Unity Lies in the Relationship Between the Alaafin and Ooni"

His Royal Majesty, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama CON, the Olowu of Owu-Kuta Kingdom, has called for unity among Yoruba monarchs, emphasizing the vital role of harmony between two key traditional institutions — the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife.

Oba Oyelude made this appeal on Tuesday while receiving the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Owoade I, at his palace in Kuta. The historic event drew a jubilant crowd of indigenes, dignitaries, and traditional rulers from within and beyond the ancient town.

Oba Oyelude, accompanied by his Olori, high chiefs, and fellow monarchs, welcomed Alaafin Owoade in a grand ceremony. In his remarks, the Olowu thanked the Alaafin for honoring Kuta with the royal visit and urged him to prioritize unity among Yoruba monarchs as a key part of his reign.

"The unity of Yorubaland rests heavily on the relationship between the Alaafin and the Ooni. Kabiyesi, your visit is historic and deeply appreciated by myself and the people of Kuta," Oba Oyelude stated. "I implore you to uphold the spirit of peace and cooperation maintained by your forefathers and to extend your royal goodwill to Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi."

Reflecting on the legacy of the late Alaafin Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, Oba Oyelude acknowledged the former king’s efforts in fostering unity and addressing divisions among Yoruba Obas. He expressed confidence that Alaafin Owoade would build on this foundation.

Oba Oyelude also praised the Alaafin for his consistent promotion of Yoruba culture and traditions, asserting that cultural preservation is critical to Yoruba identity.

"Our culture is our identity, and I am pleased to see your commitment to preserving it," he said.

In his response, Alaafin Owoade, who arrived with his Olori, a retinue of high chiefs, and members of the royal cabinet, expressed deep gratitude to the Olowu of Kuta and the people for the warm and elaborate reception. He lauded Oba Oyelude’s message of unity, describing it as timely and heartwarming.

"The message of unity delivered by Kabiyesi Oyelude is one that truly gladdens my heart. This visit marks just the beginning, as we continue to promote peace and unity across Yorubaland," Alaafin Owoade affirmed.

He concluded the visit with prayers for the people of Kuta, pledging continued collaboration among Yoruba royal institutions for the betterment of the region.
