Osun Amotekun Apprehends Three Suspects for Rape, Burglary, and Theft of Property Worth Millions of Naira

The Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has paraded three suspects apprehended for various serious crimes including burglary, theft, and sexual assault. The arrests were made following thorough investigations and intelligence-led operations conducted by the Amotekun operatives across different parts of the state.

*Bricklayer Arrested for Burglary and Theft Worth ₦2.5 Million*

One of the suspects, identified as Kayode Adekunle, a 30-year-old bricklayer, was arrested for burglarizing an uncompleted residential building located at a new site in Osogbo.

According to Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Chief Dr Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele allegedly took advantage of his familiarity with construction sites to gain unauthorized access to the building after close of work. He is accused of carting away various electrical tools and wiring materials valued at approximately ₦2.5 million.

After a series of discreet surveillance operations and intelligence gathering, operatives traced the suspect to his residence where he was eventually apprehended with the Stolen items.

*Tailor Caught Stealing Home Appliances Worth Over ₦800,000*

Another suspect, Lawal Musa, a 23-year-old tailor originally from Kaduna but residing in the Sabo area of Osogbo, was arrested for stealing several household items. Among the stolen items were a flat-screen television, electrical cables, and two large standing fans. The total estimated value of the stolen property stands at over ₦800,000.

Lawal, during interrogation, admitted to selling the items to a buyer identified as "Rilwan" in the same Sabo neighborhood. Shockingly, the suspect disclosed that he sold the television for a mere ₦27,000 and the standing fans for ₦30,000 – a fraction of their actual worth. Amotekun operatives are currently investigating the said buyer for possible involvement in a wider theft and resale ring.

*Man Arrested for Rape Under Threat of Gun and Knife*

In a separate and deeply disturbing case, the Amotekun Corps arrested Lekan Bakare, a 29-year-old tailor and motorcycle operator, for the rape of a 35-year-old woman. The incident occurred in the Alusekere area of Ede.

According to the victim’s statement, the suspect lured her to his home under the pretext of helping her locate her missing ward. Upon her arrival, Bakare reportedly brandished a locally made pistol and a knife, using both weapons to intimidate and forcibly rape her.

Following the survivor's prompt report at the Amotekun office, the corps swiftly swung into action. The suspect was arrested and has since confessed to the crime during interrogation. The case has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Chief Dr Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele reiterated the agency’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents. He commended the public for providing timely information and encouraged continued collaboration with security agencies.

“These arrests are a clear demonstration of our zero-tolerance for criminal activities in Osun State,” Dr. Omoyele said. “We will not rest until every neighborhood is free from threats and those responsible are brought to justice.”

A legal action will be taken on the felons.
