Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has expressed strong confidence in Tinubu’s chances of re-election in the 2027 presidential polls.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Wednesday, Bwala stated that based on current political realities, no opposition figure stands a chance against President Tinubu in the next electoral cycle.
“I have seen the political climate in Nigeria today, and I will speak to facts, not conjecture. There’s not a single politician who has the capacity to knock off President Bola Tinubu on all fronts,” he said.
Talks of a Jonathan Comeback
As political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, speculations have emerged around possible presidential contenders. Some prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark, are reportedly considering forming alliances to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
There have also been growing calls for former President Goodluck Jonathan to re-enter the presidential race, though he has yet to publicly declare his intentions.
Responding to these speculations, Bwala said while Jonathan has gained considerable international stature since leaving office in 2015, any attempt to return to domestic politics could risk damaging his global reputation.
“Some unscrupulous elements are trying to hoodwink former President Goodluck Jonathan to come into politics so they can destroy the reputation he has been building after he left government by becoming an international figure globally,” Bwala said.
He also questioned the sincerity of those urging Jonathan to return, particularly from the North, saying, “The elements that are going to him in the North, asking him to come and run — were they not the ones that chased him away? What hope does he have that this time round, they are calling him because they mean well for him?”
Bwala further asserted that Tinubu enjoys wide support across both northern and southern regions, giving him a strong national advantage ahead of the 2027 race.
