By-Election: INEC Staff, Politician Arrested with Large Sum of Cash in Ogun

Security operatives in Ogun State have apprehended individuals suspected to be officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside a politician, over alleged plans to engage in vote buying ahead of a by-election in the state.

The arrests were made on Saturday at a hotel in Iperu-Remo, located in the Ikenne Local Government Area.

According to reports, the suspects were found in possession of a substantial amount of cash. A viral video circulating on social media shows a man and a woman—believed to be INEC staff—being questioned by security agents while squatting.

Also present at the scene were individuals alleged to be members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During the interrogation, a security officer claimed intelligence reports had linked the INEC staff to a plot involving financial inducement by party officials to influence the outcome of the by-election.
