Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating he could not have served under it and would have resigned if appointed.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Lawal said:
“I thank God I didn’t make the mistake of joining this government. If I were part of it, I probably would have been sacked, killed, or forced to resign.”
Lawal, a former ally of Tinubu, took issue with the President’s leadership style, alleging widespread nepotism and ethnic bias in appointments.
“I can’t attend meetings where 99% of attendees are Yoruba. They often end discussions in their language, excluding others,” he said.
Reflecting on the 2023 election campaign, Lawal claimed northern supporters were insulted and undervalued, adding that Yoruba political behavior often marginalizes allies after victories.
He also criticized the administration’s handling of the economy, especially the removal of fuel subsidy in May 2023. According to Lawal, despite the announcement, subsidies are still being paid, and Nigerians have yet to feel any positive impact.
Regarding the 2023 presidential election, Lawal, now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleged it was rigged by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Peter Obi won that election,” he asserted.
