Imo Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing 75-Year-Old Father Over Land Dispute

A 39-year-old man, Ifeanyi Odinka, has been arrested by the Imo State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old father, Denius Odinka, to death during a disagreement over the proceeds from a land sale.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, the arrest was made by operatives of the Orlu Division on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in Amaifeke, Orlu Local Government Area.

“Operatives of Orlu Division, on 12th August, 2025, apprehended one Ifeanyi Odinka ‘m’, 39 years, of Amaifeke Orlu, for stabbing his father, Denius Odinka ‘m’, 75 years, to death following a dispute over proceeds from a land sale,” the statement read. “On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.”

The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Police Command called on residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, urging them to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Land disputes are a persistent source of violent conflict in parts of Nigeria, often escalating among family members due to disagreements over inheritance, sales, or boundaries. The Imo State Police Command has recorded several similar cases in recent years, especially in rural areas where land ownership carries both economic and cultural significance.

In a related case earlier reported by SaharaReporters, operatives from the Orlu Divisional Headquarters also arrested a cleric, Pastor Ikenna Emmanuel of Authentic Power City Church, Umuobom, Ideato-South LGA, and another individual, Franklin Chizoba, for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman.

The incident, which occurred on June 30, 2025, reportedly took place at the pastor’s residence, where the victim was invited under the pretense of receiving prayers. Police say she was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted by both men. The suspects have reportedly confessed and admitted to being in a homosexual relationship.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
