President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a working visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In Japan, the President will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled for August 20–22 in Yokohama. The summit, themed "Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa," will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, institutional reform, and the promotion of sustainable development and human security.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will participate in plenary sessions, engage in bilateral talks with global leaders, and meet with executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.
TICAD, established in 1993 by the Japanese government in collaboration with the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The previous edition took place in Tunisia in 2022.
Upon concluding his engagements in Japan, President Tinubu will travel to Brasilia on Sunday, August 24, for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. During his stay, he will hold bilateral talks with President Lula and attend a business forum with Brazilian investors.
The President will be accompanied by a delegation of senior officials and key ministers, who are expected to explore new areas of cooperation and sign bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.
