Solomon Dalung, a former minister of Youth and Sports Development, has stated that the way some state governments are handling the fight against banditry is deeply troubling.
In an interview with Voice of the People TV, Solomon Dalung said in Katsina State some bandits were invited for negotiations inside the government house. He said the bandits went inside while openly carrying their weapons. He said the army was also present, fully armed at the venue.
Solomon Dalung stated that after the talks ended, the bandits were allowed to simply walk back into the bush with the same weapons they had brought.
In Solomon Dalung's words: "In Katsina bandits came for a negotiation in government house bearing their weapons while the Nigerian army were also carrying weapons. And after the negotiation they left to the bush with their arms"
