In 2023, a young shoemaker from Abeokuta, popularly known as Timi on X (formerly Twitter), captured the hearts of many Nigerians when he publicly announced that he was searching for a wife. Despite living with a disability, Timi was widely praised for his resilience and work ethic, with many admiring his courage and tenacity. His story quickly went viral across Nigerian social media, where he was celebrated as a symbol of hope and determination.
However, the narrative has taken a troubling turn in 2025, as Timi is once again trending—this time for all the wrong reasons.
A young woman identified as Damilola came forward on Instagram, alleging that Timi had been using her identity to defraud unsuspecting men online. She shared screenshots as evidence, claiming that Timi had stolen her photos from her social media pages and used them without her consent.
According to Damilola, Timi allegedly created a fake Facebook account in her name in 2022, linking it to a WhatsApp number. He reportedly went further by opening a TikTok account using her images, through which he sent edited nude photos to men while continuing to impersonate her.
Shockingly, Timi has confessed to these actions in a video that has since surfaced online.
The revelations have left many of his former supporters stunned and disappointed. Once seen as a beacon of determination in the face of adversity, questions are now being raised about why he turned to such deceitful acts.
“This is a young man whom a lot of people once admired for his tenacity. Why couldn't he stick to his craft? Why and how did he even think of doing such evil? The disappointment is loud gan,” wrote social commentator Eshi Ayo II in a viral post.
