Former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jacob Mark, has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent comments dismissing the prospects of former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Labour Party candidate Peter Obi contesting the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with Arise News on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Mark expressed shock at Wike’s continued interference in PDP affairs despite his absence from party meetings and decision-making processes.
“We can say without any doubt that Wike is not a member of the PDP. He has not attended any meetings, he has not made contributions to decisions, yet he goes on air to issue directives. It is strange,” Mark said.
The former party official accused Wike of attempting to dictate the party’s direction from outside, describing his posture as alien to PDP members. He mocked Wike’s perceived self-importance, questioning the basis of his confidence.
“I wonder where Wike gets his power. Looking at him physically, he is not even strong. I don’t think he has anything extraordinary mentally or psychologically to warrant such self-assessment of might,” Mark remarked pointedly.
Mark further criticized Wike for convening frequent media briefings that overshadow President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that the minister is trying to position himself as an alternate power center in Abuja.
Reacting to Wike’s description of Jonathan’s 2015 electoral defeat as an embarrassment, Mark defended the former president’s decision to concede defeat as an act of statesmanship that saved Nigeria from potential post-election violence.
Wike had earlier stated that bringing Jonathan or Obi back into the PDP fold would be a “big mistake,” warning that the party’s zoning arrangement and internal divisions could further damage its chances in 2027.
However, Mark dismissed these comments as grandstanding from someone who, according to him, no longer participates in the PDP’s internal processes.
