Strong indications have emerged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be considering automatic Senate tickets for a selected group of lawmakers ahead of the 2027 general elections, in what observers describe as a strategic move to preserve stability within the National Assembly.
Sources familiar with the development say the proposal is aimed at rewarding lawmakers who have played key roles in maintaining cohesion in the Senate, strengthening ties with the executive arm, and facilitating the passage of major government policies and reforms.
The plan was reportedly hinted at by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, during a recent meeting with
political stakeholders in the state.
According to insiders, the lawmakers being considered for continuity include prominent figures such as Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara West), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central).
Others reportedly on the list are Yahaya Abdullahi, Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar, Idiat Oluranti Adebule (Lagos West), Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central), and Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East), among others.
Governor Idris was quoted as saying that these lawmakers have been instrumental in ensuring steady leadership within the Red Chamber and in fostering productive legislative-executive relations under the current administration. He reportedly noted that their experience and political influence have contributed significantly to governance stability and institutional balance.
He further emphasized that retaining such figures would help sustain legislative harmony and ensure policy continuity as the administration advances its reform agenda in the lead-up to 2027.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency or the leadership of the All Progressives Congress. Despite this, the report has already sparked intense debate within political circles, particularly among party stakeholders and aspirants preparing to contest for Senate seats.
Political analysts warn that if implemented, the move could significantly reshape internal party dynamics, especially in states where new contenders are already mobilising for the 2027 elections.
