A broad coalition of Osogbo indigenes, comprising community leaders, youth groups, professionals, market associations, and diaspora stakeholders, has unanimously declared its readiness to support and vote for any political party that concedes the Osun Central Senatorial ticket to a qualified indigene of Osogbo in the lead-up to the August 15 governorship election.
The position was reached after extensive consultations and engagements held across Osogbo and among diaspora networks, reflecting a shared commitment to fairness, inclusion, and balanced representation within Osun Central Senatorial District.
In a joint statement issued on behalf of the coalition, the group emphasized that the demand for an Osogbo indigene to occupy the senatorial seat is both justifiable and long overdue. Despite Osogbo’s status as the state capital and its strategic political and economic relevance, the city has not enjoyed proportional representation at any level
This is a collective and non-partisan decision rooted in equity and justice,” the statement read. “Osogbo indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora, are united in their resolve to support any political party that recognizes our rightful place in the political structure by conceding the Osun Central Senatorial ticket to one of our own.”
The coalition stressed that its stance transcends party affiliations, focusing instead on credible representation that reflects the aspirations and interests of the people. It further noted that Osogbo’s voting strength, political awareness, and organizational capacity position it as a decisive factor in the forthcoming election.
According to the statement, the people of Osogbo are prepared to mobilize across all wards and polling units to ensure the success of any party that aligns with this position. The group also reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful, democratic participation and issue-based engagement throughout the electoral process.
“This is a defining moment for our people. We are organized, united, and determined to translate our collective will into meaningful political representation. The path to electoral success in Osun Central undoubtedly runs through Osogbo,” the statement added.
Our demand is simple and just:
Recognition of Osogbo’s strategic importance within Osun Central.
Fair rotation and distribution of political opportunities.
Inclusion of competent and credible Osogbo indigenes in senatorial representation.
We emphasize that this is not a partisan declaration. Rather, it is a democratic expression of the collective will of the people. Our support transcends party lines and is firmly anchored on the principle of representation for Osogbo.
The coalition therefore called on all political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders to take cognizance of this unified demand and act in the interest of equity, inclusiveness, and sustainable political development in Osun State.
