The Police have arrested and detained a police officer attached to the operational Zonal Command (Zone XI), Osogbo, capital of Osun State, Olugbenga Rotimi, for allegedly raping, battering and threatening the life of a 48-year-old woman while she was in the zone’s custody as a suspect.
The housewife, Funmilayo Abigail, had claimed that the police officer, also known as “Babalawo” by colleagues in the zonal command, sexual assaulted and brutalised her in one of the offices at the Zone XI under the command of an Assistant Inspector General of Police.
Rotimi is said to be working in the General Investigation Department of the zonal command.
The married woman said she started bleeding immediately officer Rotimi penetrated her private part in an inhumane manner, disclosing that the bleeding lasted for about 35 days after series of medical interventions.
According to abigail, in an exclusive interview with THE POINT, after she was released from custody, she was arrested on a civil matter at Oke-Baale Police Divisional Office before the complainant, Mr and Mrs Peter and Lynda Onyedikachukwu Ogwanya allegedly colluded with the police to move her to Zone XI where she was detained for several days without arraignment.
She disclosed that she was arrested on december 4, 2025 based on a complaint of unpaid debt by Mr and Mrs Peter Ogwanya, where she was locked up and transferred to different police stations for nine days, before she was finally transferred to Zone XI Police Command, Osogbo, where she was detained for over ten days. In the early hours of december 28, 2025, she said she went out of the cell to use the toilet outside, since there was no toilet inside the cell, and since officer olugbenga rotimi was the only officer on duty that day, he followed her outside.
However, on her return to the cell after using the toilet, officer Olugbenga Rotimi told her he wanted to help her by offering to allow her sleep in his office, since she had been on the floor for the days she had been on detention, and that she would go back to her cell before those for morning shift resumed.
After some deliberations, she reluctantly agreed and followed officer Olugbenga Rotimi into his office where he directed her to sleep on a yellow damask pattern sofa in his space, thanked him, and he put off the lights and left the office. However, around 1:30 am, the victim was shocked when she felt officer olugbenga rotimi touching her with a large erection.
Abigail further revealed that when she tried to shout, he covered her mouth with a cloth and threatened to shoot her dead with his gun tied with a red cloth, and that he would tell people that she attempted to escape to cover up his reason for shooting her dead.
After an unsuccessful struggle with officer olugbenga rotimi for over 30 minutes, falling down from the sofa and injuring herself, he finally overpowered her by beating and dragging her on the floor. He succeeded in raping her mercilessly without any condom. The experience was beyond imagination because she thought she was dead. This man really dealt with her. He was very brutal, and she started bleeding.
She further stated that after officer Rotimi finished his act, he started abusing her and threatening to kill her with a charm he was holding if she told anyone what happened, and thereafter gave her a green towel to clean herself and sent her back to her cell. According to her, there were stains of blood on the sofa and the towel, as she started bleeding due to the rape.
The victim stated that after the rape, she started feeling pains in her stomach and serious bleeding, as officer Olugbenga Rotimi hit her on the stomach during the beating, and she could not report what happened to any person in the station as officer Olugbenga Rotimi kept a close watch on her to prevent her from speaking out.
According to her, due to the pains in her stomach and bleeding, she fainted in the cell one night, which led to her being rushed to the hospital, and it was by sheer luck she survived, because she bled for a continuous period of 35 days.
Meanwhile, reliable sources in the Zonal Command informed THE POINT that Rotimi was picked up at the Zone XI by a team of police operatives led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Osun State.
Rotimi’s arrest was said to have been carried out last Thursday, after preliminary investigation. Sources also said that some evidence were obtained against the officer.
“Yes, he has been arrested by a team of police detectives led by the Deputy Commissioner, CID,” a top police officer said.
A human rights group, Centre for Anti Corruption & Open Leadership (CACOL) had petitioned the Inspector General of Police, the AIG in charge of Zone XI, relevant ministries in Osun State, and the state House of Assembly, urging them to probe the allegations and prosecute those found culpable.
Another human rights body, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), has accused some other police officers in the state of sustained abuse of powerand violations of fundamental human rights perpetrated against Pastor Festus Sunday Ajulo and his wife Mrs. Olufunmilayo.
The group, however, called on the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu to provide adequate protection and justice for the victims to prevent further intimidation or retaliation.
According to the group, in a petition obtained, some other officers at Oke-Baale division extorted the victim under the bus is of granting her bail, adding that same thing was done at the Zone XI where some personnel physically assaulted her after making her to cough out the sum of N500,000 and also seized her house, documents, vehicle and other vital documents from her.CDHR urged Disu to ensure that criminal prosecution is initiated against any officer found culpable of rape, extortion, unlawful detention, or abuse of office.
Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the public relations department of Zone XI Osogbo have not yielded success as at the time of this report.
