The National Forum of Progressive Women (NFPW) Osun state chapter, has appealed to apex leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state to reserve at least 35% elective positions for female aspirants as the extant National Gender Policy (NGP) recommends.
The forum maintained that leadership of the party should at least, reserve 1 senatorial ticket, 3 House of Representatives tickets and 8 State Assembly tickets for female aspirants in order to give them the opportunity to represent people of their senatorial, federal and state constituencies.
This was contained in a statement issued and jointly signed by the state coordinator, Revr Mrs Owoade and the general secretary of the forum, Mrs Omolara Onifade and made available to Newsmen on Monday in Osogbo the state capital.
The group said inasmuch as the extant National Gender Policy (NGP) had recommended 35% affirmative action instead and sought for a more inclusive representation of women with at least 35% of both elective and appointive public service positions respectfully.
Owoade therefore called the former Executive governor of Osun, Chief Adebisi Akande, minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alh Gboyega Oyetola, chairman of Agba Osun, Chief Sola Akinwumi, National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Osun APC chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, Osun APC gubernatorial candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and others to consider women by giving them the opportunity to represent their people of their senatorial district, federal and state constituencies.
According to Revr. Owoade, "we are appealing to all our esteem political leaders in Osun to please, give tickets to female aspirants to represent us at the National and state assembly, we have suffered and still suffering; we need our voice to be heard, we want a representative that can deliver dividends of democracy by changing the narratives of representation at all levels".
Owoade explained that it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that female members of the National and state Assembly are performing excellently in the provision of effective representation and dividends of democracy in their various constituencies better than their male counterparts, adding that, if female aspirants are given the opportunity, the entire people of Osun will experience unusual development and no one will have any cause to regret.
"As we all know that the roles of women in politics can not be underestimated, with respect for elders and political leaders, we are appealing to you leaders to allow 35% of female aspirants to represent us at the National and state Assembly and the entire people of Osun will not be disappointed", she promised.
The group also charged all responsible women that are competent, prepared and ready to come out in their large number to show their aspirations and contest for any elective political posts of their choice, adding that female lawmakers are doing better in all parts of the country and we have all seen typical examples in Osun.
"As a group of responsible women, we are very optimistic and proud that female representatives are the best solution to the problems faced by each and every senatorial district, federal and state constituencies and it is our believe that our leaders will do justice by respecting gender equality as well as the National Gender Policy that recommends 35% of elective positions for female aspirants noted that, male lawmakers have been tested in their various capacity and we all have experienced the aftermath of their representation and only few of them can be trusted", Revr. Owoade concluded.
The group also enjoined women in all the nooks and crannies of Osun to massively mobilize themselves, come out and cast their votes for the candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in August 15 for all and sundry in Osun to experience unusual developmental projects.
