The ancient city of Osogbo witnessed a moment of relief, gratitude, and renewed hope on Thursday as the Ataoja of Osogboland, His Royal Majesty Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, publicly applauded the Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, for his generous intervention in support of victims affected by the devastating rainstorm that recently swept through parts of the state capital.
At a well-attended cheque presentation ceremony held in Osogbo, the revered monarch described Senator Ajagunla as a compassionate and dependable leader whose commitment to the welfare of the people continues to distinguish him among public office holders.
Speaking passionately before dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, and beneficiaries, the Ataoja commended the Senator for standing by the people during one of their most difficult moments.
According to Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, the intervention reflected not only leadership but genuine love and concern for humanity.
“Senator Ajagunla has once again demonstrated that he is a promise keeper and a leader who truly cares for his people. His support for the victims of this rainstorm is timely, thoughtful, and highly commendable,” the monarch stated.
The royal father expressed appreciation to the Senator for remembering affected families whose homes, shops, and livelihoods were severely damaged by the storm, noting that the intervention would restore hope and confidence among residents struggling to recover from the disaster.
The monarch also used the opportunity to reaffirm his support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while praising members of the Osogbo Rainstorm Relief Committee for handling their assignment with transparency, fairness, and diligence.
He particularly commended the chairman of the committee, retired Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe, for providing credible leadership throughout the assessment and disbursement process.
Oba Olanipekun further advised beneficiaries to make proper use of the financial assistance, emphasizing that the funds were intended to help rebuild damaged homes, revive businesses, and support families affected by the natural disaster.
Delivering his remarks during the ceremony, the Chairman of the Osogbo Rainstorm Relief Committee and Asiwaju of Osogboland, retired Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe, disclosed that the committee undertook extensive inspections across affected communities to ensure that only genuine victims benefitted from the intervention.
Justice Adeigbe praised the Ataoja for his proactive leadership in swiftly constituting the committee shortly after the disaster occurred.
According to the retired jurist, members of the committee visited numerous communities within Osogbo, carefully documenting damaged buildings, destroyed business premises, and affected properties.
He explained that beneficiaries were grouped into three categories based on the degree of destruction suffered during the rainstorm.
Justice Adeigbe also applauded Senator Ajagunla for what he described as an uncommon display of compassion, responsibility, and commitment toward the wellbeing of constituents.
“This intervention will significantly cushion the effects of the disaster on many families and help restore hope to residents who suffered huge losses,” he said.
The intervention package, valued at ₦25 million, was specifically designed to provide financial relief for residents whose homes, businesses, and properties were destroyed during the rainstorm that ravaged several communities within Osun Central.
Following the devastating rainstorm incident last month, the Ataoja of Osogboland had constituted a five-man relief committee to assess the extent of damage and coordinate assistance for victims.
The committee was chaired by retired Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe and included notable members such as Mr. David Olasupo, Alhaji Chief Kamarudeen Yusuf Efe (Otun Babalọja, Sasa Market), Mr. Taofik Adebayo, who serves as Special Assistant to Senator Ajagunla, and Hon. (Chief) Adeshina Alapadupẹ.
Their assignment involved identifying affected residents, documenting losses, and ensuring transparency in the distribution of relief support.
Several beneficiaries who received support during the ceremony expressed deep appreciation to Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla for what they described as a timely intervention.
Many of them noted that the assistance would help ease their burdens and enable them to gradually rebuild their lives after the destruction caused by the storm.
The beneficiaries also praised the Ataoja of Osogboland and members of the relief committee for conducting the process openly and fairly.
The event attracted several prominent traditional rulers and dignitaries from across Osun Central Senatorial District.
Among those present were the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Eburu of Iba, Alasi of Asi, Aare of Iree, Oluresi of Iresi, Owa of Otan Ayegbaju, Alaagba of Agbaa, Akesin of Ora-Igbomina, Afaji of Ifaji, Olona of Ada, Olororuwo of Ororuwo, Asaoni, Oluroki of Irepodun, members of the Ataoja-in-Council, and other respected community leaders.
