The Ataoja of Osogboland, His Royal Majesty Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, alongside the Asiwaju of Osogboland, Retired Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe, and the Chief Imam of Osogboland, Sheikh Musa Animasahun, has announced a total ban on the use of political party materials, candidate banners, caps, vests, and other political insignia during the forthcoming Eid-El-Adha prayers in Osogbo.
The decision was unanimously reached during a high-level security meeting convened by the Ataoja of Osogboland on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the royal palace in Osogbo. The meeting had in attendance critical stakeholders, Islamic leaders, community representatives, and various security agencies operating within the state capital and its environs.
Addressing the gathering, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II stressed that the Eid praying ground must remain a sacred environment dedicated strictly to worship, peace, unity, and spiritual reflection, devoid of any form of political activities or displays capable of causing tension, distraction, or disorder among worshippers.
The revered monarch emphasized that no individual or group would be allowed to enter the Eid praying ground with banners, posters, branded caps, campaign vests, or any form of materials associated with political parties or aspirants. According to him, the directive became necessary in order to sustain the peaceful atmosphere traditionally associated with religious celebrations in Osogbo.
Oba Jimoh commended all stakeholders and security agencies for their continued commitment to the protection of lives and property across Osogbo and neighbouring communities. He particularly applauded the professionalism and dedication of the security operatives in maintaining peace during previous festive periods.
The monarch further directed security agencies to strictly enforce traffic and movement regulations during the Eid celebrations. He stated that only officially approved VIP vehicles would be permitted access into the Eid praying ground, while all other vehicles must be parked outside designated areas around the venue.
He also urged the Chief Imam and members of the Eid planning committee to work closely with security agencies to ensure seamless coordination before, during, and after the prayers, noting that collective responsibility remains essential to achieving a peaceful celebration.
Speaking during the meeting, the Asiwaju of Osogboland, Retired Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe, commended the Ataoja for convening the security stakeholders’ meeting in the overall interest of peace, stability, and public safety in Osogbo.
Justice Adeigbe urged all security agencies to fully implement the resolutions reached at the meeting and ensure strict compliance with the directives of the Ataoja throughout the Eid-El-Adha celebrations. He noted that maintaining peace during and after the festivities should remain a top priority for all concerned authorities.
Also speaking, the Chief Imam of Osogboland, Sheikh Musa Animasahun, expressed appreciation to the Ataoja for demonstrating proactive leadership by organizing the security meeting ahead of the Eid celebration.
The Islamic cleric praised security agencies for their outstanding performance during the last Eid-El-Fitri celebrations and appealed to them to sustain the same level of professionalism and vigilance during the forthcoming Eid-El-Adha festivities.
Sheikh Animasahun further assured the monarch that the Eid planning committee and Muslim faithful across Osogbo would cooperate fully with security agencies and adhere strictly to all directives issued for the smooth conduct of the celebration.
In their separate responses, representatives of the various security agencies present at the meeting assured the Ataoja and stakeholders of their readiness to discharge their responsibilities diligently, professionally, and without bias. They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the Eid celebrations.
The meeting concluded with a collective appeal to residents, worshippers, political actors, and visitors to prioritize peace, obey all laid-down regulations, and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a hitch-free Eid-El-Adha celebration across Osogbo and its environs.
