The Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, has directed that this year’s Eid-El-Kabir prayers in Osogbo be observed without any form of political display, as traditional rulers, Islamic leaders, and security agencies move to preserve peace during the celebration.
At a security stakeholders’ meeting held at the royal palace on Thursday, the monarch announced a ban on political party banners, branded caps, Singing and drumming, Branded Vehicles, campaign vests, posters, and other political materials at the central Eid praying ground Oke-Baale, Osogbo.
According to the Ataoja, the Eid venue is strictly a place of worship and spiritual reflection and should not be turned into a platform for political activities capable of creating tension or distracting worshippers.
The meeting, attended by community leaders, clerics, and security operatives, also resolved to strengthen crowd control and traffic management measures during the festivities.
Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II directed security agencies to enforce movement restrictions around the Eid ground, stating that only accredited VIP vehicles would be allowed access to designated areas, while other attendees would park outside the venue.
He urged residents, political actors, and visitors to cooperate with authorities and comply with all regulations aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly Eid celebration across Osogbo.
Also speaking, the Asiwaju of Osogboland, retired Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe, described the security meeting as a proactive step toward maintaining stability during the festive period. He called on security agencies to strictly implement all resolutions reached at the gathering.
The Chief Imam of Osogboland, Sheikh Musa Animasahun, praised the monarch for prioritizing peace and assured that Muslim faithful and the Eid planning committee would fully support the directives and collaborate with security agencies throughout the celebrations.
Security agencies present at the meeting also pledged to maintain professionalism and ensure adequate security before, during, and after the Eid prayers.
