A political group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the IBO Grassroots Mobilisers for Babs, says it is still wondering who the leaders behind the scenes are. According to the group, what is currently happening in the APC is very strange to many progressive members who were raised within the party's democratic tradition.
The group argued that by denying the ticket to Hon. Adegboyega Basheer Bello, popularly known as Babs, the Osun APC, is sending a message that the votes of Ifelodun, Boripe, and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency do not matter. The group particularly pointed to Odo-Otin Local Government, urging the party to carefully examine the voting strength of major towns such as Inisha and Oyan, as well as several other communities.
The group noted that the party rarely won in Okuku and that the electoral records should be thoroughly reviewed. The group stated that the matter has gone beyond Babs and now concerns the political relevance and recognition of the constituency within the party.
The group called on party leaders and those who conducted the primary election in the IBO Federal Constituency to come out openly and explain how Babs lost the primary election. According to the group, if the explanation is genuine and convincing, there will be no problem.
The group also recalled that during the 2022 primary election, votes attributed to a particular town in Boripe Local Government could not be replicated during the actual governorship election, raising questions about the credibility of such figures
It further noted that members of the APC in Ekiti State are celebrating today because their primary election was conducted in a more transparent and acceptable manner than what was witnessed in Osun State.
The group reiterated that it has no intention of leaving the APC. However, it warned that party leaders should not ignore the grievances of members, stressing that the support and votes of AMBO supporters remain paramount to every progressive-minded member of the party. It added that while members remain committed to supporting AMBO, the outcome of future Assembly elections and other elections may not necessarily be the same if these concerns are left unaddressed.
