In a remarkable display of community service and humanitarian commitment, the LAUTECH Muslim Graduates Association (LAUMGA), Osogbo Branch, in collaboration with the NASFAT Osogbo Branch, on Wednesday organized a free medical outreach and surgical intervention programme for vulnerable members of the public, particularly children and elderly citizens suffering from selected ailments.
The outreach, which took place at NASFAT Hospital, Osogbo, attracted a large number of beneficiaries who turned out to take advantage of the free surgical services. Medical experts conducted operations on patients diagnosed with hernia and other health conditions requiring surgical attention, providing much-needed relief to individuals who could not afford the cost of treatment.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Opawole Abdulrauf explained that the outreach was carefully designed to cater for selected ailments, with surgical procedures for children commencing as early as 7:00 a.m., while operations for older patients followed thereafter. He emphasized the importance of maintaining good health and urged members of the public to pay close attention to their lifestyles, dietary habits, and regular medical check-ups.
“The objective of this programme is to improve access to healthcare services for those in need. We encourage everyone to take their health seriously and monitor what they consume in order to prevent avoidable health complications,” he said.
Representing the National President of LAUMGA, Dr. Akinniran Abdullah, who also participated in the surgical operations, conveyed the goodwill message of the association’s national leadership to the beneficiaries. He welcomed participants to the outreach and reiterated that the initiative was part of LAUMGA’s commitment to giving back to society through impactful healthcare interventions.
According to him, many individuals continue to face serious health challenges but are unable to access treatment because of financial constraints. He noted that the free surgical programme was specifically designed to bridge that gap and provide hope to affected individuals.
“This programme reflects our commitment to supporting those who are less privileged and cannot afford the cost of surgery. Through this outreach, we are helping to improve lives and reduce the burden of healthcare expenses on families,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Chairman of LAUMGA Osogbo Branch, Mr. Owolawi Abduljeleel, popularly known as O.J. Success, explained that the initiative was conceived as part of the association’s efforts to positively impact society and support vulnerable members of the community.
He disclosed that beneficiaries were selected following extensive public awareness campaigns and registration exercises conducted through various communication channels. He urged all beneficiaries to adhere strictly to post-surgery medical advice and maintain healthy lifestyles to ensure full recovery.
“Our goal is to give back to society by helping people who cannot afford the cost of medical operations. This collaboration between LAUMGA and NASFAT demonstrates what can be achieved when organizations come together for a noble cause,” he said.
Mr. Abduljeleel further revealed that the outreach formed part of activities lined up to commemorate the 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of LAUMGA, scheduled to hold on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Atlantis Civic Centre, Ring Road, Osogbo, Osun State.
Beneficiaries of the free medical outreach expressed profound gratitude to LAUMGA and NASFAT for the initiative, describing it as timely and life-changing, especially amid prevailing economic challenges in the country.
Several beneficiaries noted that the programme had relieved them of a significant financial burden and called on other organizations, religious groups, and philanthropists to emulate the gesture. They also pledged to comply with all medical instructions provided by healthcare professionals to ensure successful recovery.
