The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has distributed additional operational patrol vehicles to security agencies in the state as part of efforts to strengthen security, improve response time, and enhance public safety.
Speaking at the official presentation ceremony on Saturday, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, described the initiative as a strategic investment in the state's security architecture. He said the vehicles would boost mobility, intelligence-led policing, patrol coverage, and inter-agency collaboration in the fight against crime.
The police commissioner expressed appreciation to Osun ALGON, led by its Chairman, Hon. Samuel Abiodun Idowu, for what he described as a thoughtful intervention, noting that security remains a shared responsibility.
Gotan assured residents that the vehicles would be deployed effectively and maintained properly to safeguard lives and property across the state.
"Our strength lies in unity of purpose and coordinated action. We remain committed to sustaining a secure environment where businesses can thrive and citizens can go about their lawful activities without fear," he said.
In his address, the Osun ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Abiodun Idowu, said the distribution of the remaining patrol vehicles fulfilled a promise made by the association to support security agencies across the state.
According to him, the initiative underscores the commitment of local government councils to maintaining peace, law and order, stressing that security is the foundation of sustainable development.
He noted that the intervention was made possible through the growing autonomy of local governments, which has enabled councils to respond more effectively to the needs of their communities.
Idowu also commended security agencies for their dedication in safeguarding lives and property across Osun State.
Recalling the killing of a local government chairman, the late Hon. Remi Abass, in February 2025, Idowu urged security agencies to remain vigilant, particularly as the state approaches its governorship election.
He said the patrol vehicles would enhance operational efficiency, improve response time, and support proactive policing across the state.
The ALGON chairman also called on residents to support security agencies by remaining law-abiding and providing timely information that could help prevent crime.
He charged the beneficiary agencies to ensure the vehicles are properly maintained and used solely for the purpose of protecting lives and property while promoting peace in communities across Osun State.
The event was attended by senior police officers, heads of security agencies, members of ALGON, government officials, and other stakeholders.
