The Youth Advancement Initiative (YAI), Osun State Chapter, warmly commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Osun State, for announcing the commencement of the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for eligible voters ahead of the Saturday, 15th August, 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.
As a youth advocacy organization committed to promoting democratic governance, civic participation, and youth development, we hereby call on every eligible voter in Osun State, particularly the youths, to take immediate advantage of this opportunity by visiting the designated Registration Areas and INEC Local Government Offices to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) within the stipulated dates announced by the Commission.
The future of Osun State will not be determined by complaints on social media, political arguments in our communities, or emotional sentiments. Rather, it will be decided at the polling units through the votes of citizens who possess valid Permanent Voter Cards.
The youth population remains the largest voting bloc in Nigeria. Consequently, the decisions made by young people during elections will significantly shape the quality of leadership, governance, employment opportunities, education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, and economic prosperity for years to come. If the youths desire a better Osun State, then they must actively participate in the democratic process by exercising their constitutional right to vote.
We therefore remind every young person that your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is your voice, your power, and your constitutional weapon for peaceful change. It is the most effective instrument through which you can determine who governs the state and influence policies that affect your future.
YAI urges all first-time voters, those who recently completed voter registration, applicants for transfer of registration, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, and those who updated their records to ensure they collect their PVCs promptly from the designated collection centres as announced by INEC.
We also encourage political parties, youth groups, community leaders, religious organizations, student unions, civil society organizations, and the media to intensify public awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging massive PVC collection and peaceful participation in the forthcoming governorship election.
Furthermore, we appeal to all eligible voters to safeguard their PVCs, as the card remains the only legally recognized means of accreditation for voting on election day. It should neither be sold, surrendered, nor used as an instrument for electoral malpractice. Every vote counts, and every PVC represents the voice of one citizen.
As the election approaches, the Youth Advancement Initiative equally calls on all political actors, security agencies, electoral officials, and stakeholders to uphold the principles of peace, fairness, transparency, and respect for the rule of law before, during, and after the election.
The future of Osun State belongs to all of us. Let us therefore rise above apathy and embrace our civic responsibility.
Collect your PVC. Protect your Vote. Decide Your Future.
