Tinubu’s Re-Election: Adeleke Inaugurates Osun Campaign Council, Targets 1.5 Million Votes as Akande, Omisore, Bashiru, Omoworare Converge

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has inaugurated the state’s Presidential Campaign Council for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, bringing together prominent political figures and stakeholders from the Accord, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The inauguration, held at the Oasis Event Centre in Osogbo, witnessed the participation of notable political figures, including former Osun State Governor Chief Bisi Akande; former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore; former Deputy Governor Titi Laoye-Tomori; Senator Ajibola Bashiru; Senator Babajide Omoworare; and the Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, among others.

Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke said the coalition was formed specifically to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election, expressing confidence that the alliance would deliver more votes for the President than previously promised.

The governor recalled an earlier commitment to deliver 1.5 million votes for Tinubu, declaring that the political structures represented at the gathering were capable of securing an overwhelming victory for the President in Osun.

Describing the coalition as a convergence of political forces across party lines, Adeleke said the alliance was focused on the presidential election and should not be misconstrued as a merger extending to other electoral contests.

He clarified that while the coalition partners had agreed to work together for Tinubu’s re-election, they remained free to support their respective party candidates in the senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.

“Our alliance is about the presidential election on which we have all agreed to support the re-election of President Tinubu,” the governor stated.

Adeleke Promises Resolution of Local Government Crisis

Beyond the presidential campaign, the governor offered an update on the lingering local government crisis in Osun State, assuring residents that discussions between the federal and state governments had reached an advanced stage.

According to him, the crisis could be resolved soon, expressing optimism that the state would receive positive news in the near future.

Adeleke urged political stakeholders to put aside previous disagreements and unite behind Tinubu, describing the moment as critical for the Yoruba people and Nigeria.

He called on the coalition members to translate their agreement into electoral mobilisation across the state.

“From the pain of the past, we must unite for the prosperity of the future,” the governor said, emphasising the need for unity among the participating political groups.

Omisore Makes Political Jibe at Multi-Party Gathering

Former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, injected a humorous political moment into the gathering with a remark highlighting the unusual convergence of rival political parties.

Recalling his opportunity to address the audience, Omisore jokingly asked whether he was expected to mention APC or Accord before proceeding to mention the APC, PDP and Accord.

His remark underscored the unusual political configuration of the gathering, where figures associated with different parties had come together around a common presidential objective.

Omisore also described the occasion as a joyful and uncommon gathering, arguing that Tinubu's appeal cut across ethnic, religious and political boundaries.

He maintained that the campaign should accommodate eligible voters regardless of their party affiliations, urging the coalition to ensure that the gathering fulfilled its electoral purpose.

Akande, Bashiru Call for Unity Behind Tinubu

Former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, congratulated the political stakeholders for the initiative, commending the spirit behind the coalition.

In his remarks, Akande reflected on the political significance of the gathering and the need for cooperation among leaders from different backgrounds and generations.

Senator Ajibola Bashiru, meanwhile, argued that no individual political ambition should take precedence over Tinubu’s re-election project.

He urged stakeholders to allow Governor Adeleke to lead the presidential campaign effort in Osun, advising political actors to concentrate on the immediate electoral task rather than become distracted by the state's 2030 governorship contest.

Bashiru's remarks reinforced the governor's position that the coalition was established primarily to secure victory for Tinubu in the presidential election.

The inauguration represents a significant political development in Osun, where influential figures associated with different political parties have agreed to work together in support of Tinubu's re-election.

The arrangement places Governor Adeleke at the centre of the state's presidential mobilisation, despite the distinct party identities and competing interests of the coalition's members.

However, the extent to which the alliance will translate into votes will depend on the ability of its leaders to coordinate their political structures, mobilise supporters and sustain cooperation beyond the inauguration.

Governor Adeleke formally inaugurated the Presidential Campaign Council at the conclusion of his address, charging members to move into the field with a shared commitment to securing victory for President Tinubu.

The event ended with a renewed call for political unity, with the participating stakeholders expected to turn their public declarations of support into a coordinated campaign ahead of the presidential election.
