2020 NTD Day: Remove the barrier of diseases - Osun Health Commissioner Urges

 
Yesterday 30th of January, 2020 was another day to mark this year NTDs day according to World Health Organization (WHO).

While in the State of Osun, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Hon. Rafiu Olasunkanmi Isamotu, joined the press men and other stakeholders to enlightened the public on the need to remove the barrier of diseases, inother to alleviate poverty and uplift the entire generations.

During the press briefing, the Hon. Commissioner emphasized the fact that: " more than 250 global civil society advocates, community leaders, health experts and policymakers will unite to kick off a decisive year in the fight against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) for the first annual World NTD Day,announced by  the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi".

Also, the Health Commissioner stated further that the NTDs are a diverse group of communicable diseases that prevail in tropical and subtropical conditions in 149 countries, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO)."

Sadly, he explained further on how the diseases had affected more than 1.5 billion of the world's most impoverished people and cost developing economies billions of dollars every year.
While, NTDs must always be at the top of public health priorities.

Statistically, he buttressed that, recently updated  information Based on a state wide Epidemiological evaluation carried out in 2014, 27 LGAs are endermic for schistosomiasis while the all 30 LGAs were found to be endermic for Soil transmitted helminths 28 LGAs endemic for onchocerciasis (intestinal worms). And is currently being tackled.

"With the effort of the Governor of the State of Osun, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, there has been several efforts for treatment in the the state formery supported by the APOC which was later dissolved in 2015. In 2017 the State of Osun government aided the Mass administration of medicine with the provision of fund for collection of medicines from the Federal Medical Store Oshodi Lagos.
Addittonal support by The Federal ministry of health also aided treatments in 2 LGAs in February 2018".

"By removing the barrier of disease, we can help alleviate poverty and uplift entire generations. He further stated.
