Based on the trending Coronavirus known as Covid 19, State government of Osun has sensitize the Executives of the State Association of Osun Market Women led by Alhaja Awawu Asindemade.
This is just as it gave directives that weekly market transacted across local governments and area office in the state are to be shut down till further notice.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu had an emergency meeting with the head of market executives of the market women from the local governments in the State, with Government Officials.
Dr Isamotu stated that the lock down was necessary due to the fact that Osun has boundaries with other states except Lagos, stressing that some of these states already have records of Covid 19. He clarified that only daily markets which normally have low patronage are allowed, adding that people from neighboring states patronise the weekly markets, which makes the state open to infection.He assured that the endemic can be curtailed with relevant protection measures in place.
He urged the association of the market women to support the government by putting up hand washing stations, and sanitizing points for everyone who patronises the markets for transaction till the plague is over. He also advised that people should avoid loitering around the market after transaction.
Dr Isamotu maintained that regular hand washing, use of sanitizers will put in check Covid 19, described the symptoms as dry and persistent coughing, catarh, high body temperature, shivering and vomiting, adding that Osun under the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is ready to combat the deadly virus, hence the proactive measures for the protection of citizens of the state.
In her remark, the Special Adviser to Osun Governor on Commerce, Cooperatives and Industries, Mrs Christiana Ogunfolaju stated that women and economy are important to any government, and that quick response and adequate safety measures are one of the keys to prevent Coronavirus.
She urged all to be careful, obey health directives and be prayerful over Covid 19, maintain hygiene, watch out for each other, adding that women should pass the information around as a fast means of sensitization.
Also the Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Barrister Mrs Olubukola Olaboopo stated that the virus which is now a global threat, had locked down some countries of the world, playfully came into the country and has now taken the centre stage, hence the advise for quarantine when it is suspected.
She advised market women to ensure compliance and hygiene, report incoming travellers, as well as notify Health authorities on anyone suspected to be victim of the virus so that the person will be treated, before the virus takes another dimension.
The Iyaloja General Alhaja Awawu Asindemade in her address appreciated Governor Gboyega Oyetola for his proactive safety measures taken speedily over the recent incident, prayed God's continuous protection over the state.
Alhaja Asindemade said the association of market women is ever ready to comply with the directive and regulations of the state government for the benefit of all, said the daily market allowed will not be abused and added that the sensitization awareness will be stepped down to all market women in Osun.
