The Olowu of Kuta, HRH Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, today distributed palliative measures to the residents of Owu-Kuta in Ayedire local government of Osun State to support the government as his modest contribution to the well-being of the people of Kuta during this trying time of coronavirus pandemic.
He maintained that vulnerable people in the society such as widows, orphans and less privileged in Owu Kuta will be the beneficiaries of foodstuffs and various sum of cash to ease their feeding, the distribution was in conjunction with 2nd Edition of Olori Fatima Adeola Makama Oyelude annual empowerment program which is being flag off today Friday 1st of May, 2020.
According to Oba Oyelude, "This is our little way of giving back to the society as a royal father and to support our governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola who is doing a good job towards improving the well-being of the populace." he added.
Oba Oyelude Makama also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and the Presidential Task Force for being proactive to contained the scourge of the dreaded disease.
Oba Oyelude in a Press Briefing During the flag off of "Olori Fatima Adeola Makama Oyelude 2nd Community Empowerment Initiatives" Stated that the effort of the federal government has yielded good result as the lockdown has really worked and now that it's being eased, I urge caution and critical appraisal of situations before total Resumption of Activities, lives should be above Economic Consideration and social activity that has being in limbo in the last 40days.
While thanking the federal government for the 1,800 bags of rice sent to the state, the revered monarch however urged the PTF to do more in term of financial assistance such as was rendered to Lagos, Ogun and the FCT in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
Oba Oyelude, who has earlier sought the assistance of the federal government immediately after the index case and the Ejigbo returnees from Abidjan increased phenomenal the number of people with coronavirus in the State, said such gesture is predicated on the fact that Osun is not financially buoyant before the COVID-19 which has further put more pressure on the lean resources of the state.
"I think the federal government has done so well in curtailing the Spread of Coronavirus and we must commend them. Even those who had predicted doom for Africa based on the way the rampaging COVID-19 humbled some of the developed world with better healthcare infrastructure cannot but commend the Buhari led federal government for it's comportment which has led to the reduction in fatality recorded since February 27 when the index case was detected.
"State like Osun deserves financial assistance to augment it's lean financial resources in order for the state government not to grind to a halt. The federal government can also grant debt relief or moratorium for osun state so as to be on sound footing post COVID-19." Olowu said.
He, however commiserated with President Muhammadu Buhari over the death of his Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari and other Nigerians who have lost loved ones to the COVID-19.
