Osun Govt To Commence Disbursement of Monthly Stipends To Widows, Aged Women.


The Governor, State of Osun  Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola  has expressed his intention to put smile on the faces of  widows and the aged women in the state through the disbursement of monthly stipends aimed towards bettering their lots.


The State's Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Barr. Olubukola Olaboopo made this known at the official flag off of the cash grant for rural women in the State.


According to her, "the cash grant disbursement which commenced today, is a Federal Government initiative which has direct impact on the poor and the vulnerable among

women across Nigeria through a program tagged National Social Investment Program (NSIP)".

 

She expressed gratitude of the State to the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farooq, who was represented by the Director, Finance and Accounts, Dr. Mathew Dada stressing that Osun is looks forward to more of the kind gesture for her women as Osun women are known for productivity and prudence.

     

Olaboopo reiterates that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is passionate about the welfare, health and empowerment of women in Osun State. She highlighted Government's plans to empower women in the state through the resuscitation of Women Development Centers across the State with the objective of making them financially independent.


The disbursement of loans to Women Farmers drawn from 30 Local Government Areas by the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola. 


She noted that the present administration in the State of Osun took giant strides to ensure quality welfare of women through the establishment of Osun Women clinic which gives psychotherapy support to victims of rape, expansion of the toll free line to cover cases of rape and other social vices against women.


Earlier at the programme in her address, the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola congratulated the beneficiaries of the Federal Government Cash Grant and adviced them to use the Grant judiciously, while using her experience as an example of how she started her business with a token encouraging them to use the grant judiciously. 


In his opening remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Intervention Programmes, Hon. Lukman Abimbola Bello praised President Muhammadu Buhari for the intervention programme and for including the rural women in the state of Osun.

He used the opportunity to identify some of the social intervention programme in the state which includes Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme OYES, OMeal programme, to mention a few.


Speaking with one of the beneficiaries Mrs Aderinola Mariam expressed her joy saying she will use the money to setup a business.
