Government of the State of Osun has charged market men and women in the State to be responsible to their duties inorder to improve business activities in markets across the State.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Dr Bode Olaonipekun gave the charge while meeting with shop owners at Ayegbaju Market in Osogbo , the State Capital.
In his address, the Commissioner said "the essence of the meeting is to charge those that have responsibilities towards the market as stakeholders to wake up to their duties as henceforth, government will not look on and see the market go down the drain.
He stated that, shop owners and traders in the market must follow the regulations and guidelines that has been laid down and also, to introduce the new facility manager that will take up the affairs of looking after the market.
The Commissioner explained that there is a benchmark of six months to monitor acitivites in the market, saying that, the expectation is to see all lock-up shops opened, occupied and work upon to it fullness capacity, ensuring that market is full to its maximum level and engage in profitable venture that will bring people to transact business in the market.
Dr Olaonipekun lauded the market men and women for their unfliching support to the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola .
He reiterated the commitment and dedication of the Governor to make life meaningful for market men and women in the State.
In their responses, shop owners and traders at Ayegbaju Market applauded the commitment of the Governor for putting in place necessary measures for the betterment of the market.
At the meeting were, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Commerce and Market Development, Alhaji Hakeem Samaja, Iyaloja General, Alhaja Awawu Ashindemade, representative of Babaloja, Alhaji R.O.U Yusuf, Facility Manager to Ayegbaju Market, Mr. Segun Adeyemo, Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mrs Kehinde Odediran, Director of Commerce, Mrs Ajibola Falode among others.
