Democracy Day: Amitolu Shittu urges the government to Stop Funding June 12 celebration, ...alleging some individuals of commercializing the Process.

As Nigerians are marking Democracy Day today and the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, the President of the Committee of Democracy Right of the People (CDRP) and the Former field commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Comrade Jagunmolu Amitolu Shittu has urged the Nigeria government most especially Osun State government to stop funding June 12 democracy day in the state.

He made the calls today during a press conference in the organization office in Jaleyemi, Osogbo, he described the act by some individuals to commercialize the June 12 Democracy Day as uncalled for.

He tasks the Nigerian government to honor those who struggle for the June 12 across Nigeria with National Honour Award to encourage the young ones to emulate their sacrifice for Nigeria's Democracy.

He urged the Osun State government to stop funding June 12 Democracy Day in the state as some civil servants are using the avenue to commercialize the whole process and the money given to the civil servant by the government is always siphoned by the civil servants in charge where the organizer always gets nothing from it. He mentioned this year June 12 as an example where the osun government awarded 15 million Naira for the June 12 celebration for the organizer and the organizer got 3 million Naira and the remaining 12 million naira is known where to be found.

"The government should allow civil society to handle the June 12 Democracy Day celebration the way it used to be before and not now that it has been commercializing by those who don't know how the struggle started"

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only Politician that will have the mantle of leadership in the country like that of Obafemi Awolowo while others had a military background and joined politics just to benefit, the current president means business in developing the country in no distant time and he should not be deterred in his quest for greater heights for the country"

He urged the government to provide dividends of democracy for the masses for them to enjoy the presence of democracy in the country.
