The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has wrapped up a three-day intensive training aimed at equipping its officers with modern crime-fighting and security management techniques.
The programme, which ran from Wednesday to Friday at the corps’ headquarters in Akure, attracted participants from the state’s three senatorial districts.
Declaring the training open, the State Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, praised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for supporting the initiative.
Adeleye noted that the exercise was designed to keep the corps ahead of criminals, who are increasingly employing sophisticated tactics such as drones and disguises.
According to him, the sessions covered intelligence gathering, information management, and contemporary investigative methods.
He stressed that discipline, professionalism, and adherence to lawful practices are key to effective security operations.
Adeleye urged officers to apply the lessons learnt, reminding them that the government’s investment in the welfare of the corps warrants corresponding improvements in performance.
One of the facilitators, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni of the Ondo State Judiciary, who presides over Chief Magistrate Court 4 in Akure popularly called the “Amotekun Court”, commended the training.
Magistrate Sekoni, who handles most Amotekun-related cases, said continuous retraining is vital, given the dynamic nature of the law.
He added that the programme would help close loopholes in case files, enhance respect for suspects’ rights, and improve the prospects of successful prosecutions.
“We reminded them of what they already know, but retraining is essential to sharpen skills. By the end of the year, there should be another session to sustain momentum,” he said, urging the corps to establish a feedback mechanism to track progress.
He further called on other security agencies in the state to emulate Amotekun’s commitment to training, insisting that continuous capacity building is crucial for professionalism in law enforcement.
The training also introduced several new innovations to enhance field operations across Ondo State.
