The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the sudden death of a young woman, Bidemi Omole, who died shortly after arriving at her boyfriend's residence in Esa-Oke, Osun State.
According to local sources, Bidemi visited her boyfriend, identified as Yinka, on Friday evening but became ill not long after arriving. She reportedly began vomiting and lost consciousness. Despite efforts to get her medical attention, she was confirmed dead before reaching the hospital.
The incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m., sparked concern among residents of the Oke Esa area. Eyewitnesses say that a crowd quickly gathered at the scene after cries for help were heard.
A neighbour, who gave her name as Taye, said, “We heard shouting from Yinka’s house and rushed there. By the time I arrived, a large crowd had gathered and security personnel were already on the scene. It was quite late. She was said to be on her way to a church vigil, something she regularly attended on Fridays.”
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the case was reported on Saturday and that the boyfriend has since been taken into custody.
“The deceased, Bidemi Omole, became ill and started vomiting shortly after arriving at her boyfriend’s house in Esa-Oke on Friday. She was being taken to a hospital but unfortunately died on the way. The boyfriend, identified as Yinka, is currently in police custody, and an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death,” Ojelabi stated.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the death.
