In a significant gesture aimed at promoting Islamic values and fostering spiritual development within the local community, the Dar Al Ber Society of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated a newly planned central mosque, to be known as Al-Salam Mosque, to the Akede Iyaloja Market in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria.
The donation, made in line with the Society’s global mission to support Islamic development and humanitarian efforts, is part of its continued tradition of building and donating mosques in underserved communities around the world. The Al-Salam Mosque project in Osogbo is being facilitated by Alhaji (Chief) Kamarudeen Yusuf Efe and implemented in collaboration with the Centre for Ahlu Sunnah Wal-Jama-ah of Nigeria.
The symbolic groundbreaking and formal announcement of the project was met with immense appreciation from community leaders and market stakeholders. The event was graced by several notable figures, including the Asiwaju of Osogboland, Hon. Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe (Rtd), who officially welcomed the representatives of the Dar Al Ber Society and Centre for Ahlu Sunnah Wal-Jama-ah of Nigeria to Osogbo. In his remarks, Hon. Justice Adeigbe expressed deep gratitude to the organization for its generous contribution and timely intervention in the market community.
"This is a noble and commendable gesture by the Dar Al Ber Society. Building a mosque in this busy market is not only a means of promoting Islamic practices but also fostering unity and peace among traders and residents," he stated. "I urge other organizations, both within and outside Nigeria, to emulate this example of impactful philanthropy."
The mosque is strategically located within the Akede Iyaloja Market to serve traders, buyers, and surrounding neighborhoods who often find it difficult to access nearby prayer facilities. Construction of the Al-Salam Mosque has officially commenced, and when completed, it is expected to accommodate hundreds of worshippers, providing them with a conducive space for prayer, reflection, and community gatherings.
Dignitaries in attendance included market leaders such as the Iyaloja, traditional authorities including various Baales, as well as representatives of local security and community groups like the Tobalase and Amotekun Corps, all of whom expressed optimism and pledged support for the successful completion of the project.
The Dar Al Ber Society’s initiative is part of its broader humanitarian outreach in West Africa, focused on mosque construction, water provision, education, and healthcare for underprivileged communities.
